WHO I AM
My name is Cory Smith. Currently, I am a meteorologist at WLTX in Columbia, SC.
I was born in Tampa, Florida where I grew up as a child. While there, I experienced the hurricane seasons of 2004-2005. When it comes down to it this is what originally sparked my interest in weather. In 2009 I moved to Charlotte, NC. I absolutely fell in love with the Queen City and the entire state of North Carolina. While there, I graduated with a B.S. in Meteorology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. In 2018, I moved to Parkersburg, WV to start my life as a TV Meteorologist at WTAP. While I was there, I gained experience forecasting all types of weather ranging from severe to winter weather. In November of 2019, I moved all the way down south to Louisiana to work KADN News 15. While I was along the Gulf Coast I forecast and experienced over half a dozen tropical systems including Hurricanes Laura, Delta, and Ida. We also covered multiple fatal tornado outbreaks as well as the historic freeze of 2020. After all of that insane weather, I am happy to be closer to home in the Palmetto state and I hope to bring all of the things I have learned to help bring you new and exciting weather content here in the future!
